Nathan Broadhead scored both goals for the Toffees, who earned the bragging rights in the mini-derby at Anfield.
The hosts entered the match having not lost since November, but were second best to their bitter rivals on the night.
The contest came little over 24 hours after the two first teams locked horns.
Indeed, Everton held Liverpool to a goalless draw at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, which meant that Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to return to the top of the Premier League table ahead of Manchester City.
