da realsbet: Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has suggested that the club’s interest in Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has eased due to wage demands, reports Kicker.
What’s the word?
da spicy bet: The Bundesliga giants have been one of the elite clubs linked to the Chile international for some time.
Sanchez’s future has been a major talking point in this transfer window due to the attacker’s apparent reluctance to sign a new contract at the Emirates.
Last week, The Guardian reported that City were confident of getting a potential £50m deal done with Arsenal, and Sanchez did little to quieten the rumours when he was asked about it while on Confederations Cup duty with Chile.
Bayern were also thought to be in the race, but now the club’s president has suggested that the club cannot afford him.
The Daily Mail states that City are considering handing over £350,000-a-week wages to the former Barcelona star.
Bayern, though, do not have the funds to match it, according to Hoeness.
He is quoted by Kicker as saying:
“I’m not in the operational side. [Chairman] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has not yet come to me, so the matter doesn’t seem to be too urgent with him. A €20m (£17.5m) salary is probably not feasible.”
Are City the only contender now?
Numerous clubs have appeared in the media being linked to Sanchez, but if Bayern do walk away from any potential deal, it seems that the path could be clear for City.
By all accounts, wages seem to be the sticking point, and at this stage it seems that the North-West outfit are the only ones willing to cater to the player’s financial demands.
Interestingly, the Daily Star recently reported that Chilean journalist Juan Luis, who works for TV station El Filtrador, tweeted that Sanchez will stay at Arsenal.
It is unclear whether the Chilean will pen a new deal or see out the remainder of his contract, but it would be detrimental to the Gunners not to sell if Sanchez is set on leaving.
A player of his quality should not be allowed to leave for nothing when his contract expires next summer.
