da bet sport: Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has spoken of his delight at reaching the Carling Cup final, after his side drew 2-2 with Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The Reds held a 1-0 lead from the first leg, and hence progressed 3-2 on aggregate; the Merseysiders came back from a goal down twice at Anfield.
A Nigel De Jong opener was cancelled out by a Steven Gerrard penalty, before Edin Dzeko restored the visitors’ lead – only for Craig Bellamy to square things up once more.
Dalglish was pleased with his side’s performance, and is looking forward to a Wembley final.
“I think it was a fantastic performance. Although the game finished as a draw, we were deserved qualifiers for the final,” the Scottish coach told Sky Sports.
“The boys were magnificent tonight and deserve a great deal of credit, and everybody in the squad has helped us get through.
“The supporters were magnificent and it is a great reward for them and the loyalty they have shown us, so for everybody at Liverpool it has been a fantastic evening,” he stated.
Dalglish was also full of praise for Bellamy, who scored the decisive goal against his former employers.
“He was unbelievable. If Man City have anyone else like Craig that they don’t want to keep, they know where we are.
“He’s been like that since he came in the door and it is fantastic to have him here,” he concluded.
Liverpool now take on Cardiff in the final, and will go into the game as favourites to lift the trophy.
