da brwin: Chile football coach Marcelo Bielsa has resigned from his post with the national team.
da fezbet: Bielsa, 55, quit the role citing differences between himself and the country’s football association, the Asociacon Nacional de Futbol Professional (Chile).
“I want to say that I have decided to resign from my post as trainer of the Chilean national team,” Bielsa told reporters on Friday.
“On Thursday I made the decision I’m communicating to you and today I resign. The reason I’ve decided to resign is because of the manner in which (ANFP president Sergio Jadue) has acted from when he assumed (office).”
“He did everything necessary for me to resign.”
The news is a blow to Chilean football, with Bielsa often admired for his refreshing, attacking approach to the game which saw him lead Chile to the second round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where they lost to eventual winners Spain.
Bielsa’s announcement ended months of uncertainty surrounding his future and comes despite the fact he signed a contract in August that would see him continue in the job until 2015.
The announcement also comes just two days after Jadue said he would remain coach of the national side and gives Chile five months to appoint a new manager before the Copa America, which will be held in Argentina in July.
