It’s been known for weeks that Marcelo Bielsa has wanted to sign a number of wingers to improve his squad this summer.
Jack Harrison has already signed, and multiple reports from over the weekend point towards the Whites completing deals for two further wide men, but their business looks to be incredibly underwhelming.
What’s the story then?
Phil Hay has previously stated that United want to bring in three wingers this summer. Speculation had been rampant about the likes of Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson, for example.
In reality, Leeds look to be re-signing Jack Clarke once he joins Tottenham, Harrison and Helder Costa on loan.
Not that any of these are bad players, but it has to be said that re-signing two individuals they had last season is a let-down after all the speculation around these exciting attacking talents.
Underwhelming
Helder Costa aside, these moves are disappointing. Clarke was already their player, and Harrison has spent a season on loan already where he proved he wasn’t all that good.
For all the hype surrounding the 18-year-old, he didn’t deliver the goods towards the back end of the season either, he failed to contribute a goal or an assist in his last 12 appearances last term.
He contributed to just seven goals last term, and that isn’t the type of player a side who are looking at automatic promotion should want as one of the key men in their team.
It’s bizarre – Bielsa has apparently been insistent that he wants to improve the wings, but somehow his idea of doing that is by bringing in two men who were already a part of his squad last season.

Indeed, Costa is a good player and his stats in the Championship prove that, but the re-signing of both Clarke and Harrison is just a sideways step rather than a move forward.
