The Blues have failed to register a win in their first two pre-season friendly matches in the United States. After being held by League One side Wrexham to a 2-2 draw, they went down 4-1 against Celtic during the weekend. After disappointing results in back-to-back games, Colwill opened up about their difficulties in the pre-season while claiming that the team are still adjusting to the tactics of new head coach Maresca.

Speaking to reporters, the 21-year-old said, "There have been mistakes, but that's what pre-season is for. We are building with a whole different approach. It's exciting. I played left-back a lot last season and am willing to play anywhere to help the team. If the gaffer needs me to play in goal I'll do it!
"I wouldn't say it's been a heavy pre-season. None of us are complaining. We want to be in the best form, and confident in the style of play. They have such good staff behind the gaffer and have been working with us individually and as units."

Colwill was involved in an ugly fight during their first pre-season friendly against the Red Dragons as he clashed with James McClean, which led to a mass brawl between both sets of players. Earlier in the summer, he was linked with a move to Bayern Munich, however, the German giants never formally approached the Premier League club.
